A practical alternative to the travel surge protector

This travel surge protector will appeal to many people. It seems well made, the A/C tines fold in the back, it weighs 1/2 lb and comes in either black or white. However, I returned it. I've found that many hotels don't have two-story outlets available that you can plug this into. They can often be found behind headboards or other furniture. You can usually find a bathroom duplex that should house this surge protector. Some hotels have desks with AC outlets built into the table lamp. Connecting this device may cause problems due to its size. It's quite chunky, doesn't pack easily (check the dimensions), and tends to be an eyesore. In some airport terminals I have found so many chargers connected to a limited number of wall mounted duplex air conditioners that this unit will never fit. If it works for you, great. For less than twenty dollars I purchased an APC surge protector (model P3U3) from Staples, which has 3 outlets, 3 USB ports, small charging cradle, 1080 joules, LED indicators to confirm good grounding, and works. and the 6 foot plugs and cords are grounded. It's flatter for me, yes it weighs a pound, but it protects all 3 power outlets and 3 USB ports. In fact, the cord and grounding plug weigh more than the APC unit. But it must be plugged into almost any grounded duplex or line outlet that fellow passengers might plug into the existing terminal duplex. I find the APC more practical and it definitely looks better in black or white. What should I put in? Netbook (A/C), iPad Mini and iPhone (USB or A/C) and usually some of my wife's devices. APC works much better for me. It can also serve as a great multi-device charging station on a desk or bedside.
