It was impossible to wean him off of being picked up, and he always growled at any noise that was at the entrance, so I decided to buy it because the dog started running away. After the purchase, I tried using vibration for a while; on occasion, I was forced to use a shocker because the dog is completely self-willed; however, in the end, the dog quickly figured out what was going on, and it now reacts to sound; the only time I resort to using vibration is if he came across very tasty food, with which he does not want to part ways. The "drop" command was one that I had trouble learning until I got the collar. Since the purchase was made a few months ago, I find that I am pressing the buttons less frequently. I am completely content with this.
