Review on πŸ’ͺ Efficient Pitman Arm Puller: OTC (8150) Conical Design for Easy Removal by John Young

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Incredibly strong puller! A must for avid mechanic's toolbox!

In the introduction to this review I would like to say that I am an avid DIY enthusiast. I'd rather spend money on tools and research time to complete the repair than pay someone else. My new project in the garage is a 2001 RHD Jeep Cherokee that my sister bought to mail. There is a lot of maintenance to be done (major air conditioning repairs, power steering, rear main seal, electrical issues and minor body work) but it is within my power. I spent 3 days removing the Pitman lever to replace it. seals and stops a horrific leak that would drain the system during the day. I soaked this thing in a PB Blaster, hit the sides and bolt of the puller with a 3lb sledgehammer, applied heat and only managed to bend 2 pullers rented from Autozone and Advance Auto. Nothing worked until this arrived. I took it out of the standard "no frills" packaging and lubricated the threads with synthetic grease to ensure everything worked smoothly. I then attached it to the power steering gear that was in my vise and used my 1/2" punch to tighten the screw on the tool. 10 seconds and bang! I broke it off and bought a new one. I wasn't able to cut the linkage as the standard left hand drive linkages had different wrenches (a few degrees difference) so I REALLY needed that to work. I know this because I ordered one from Revain that should fit and compared them. Needless to say, it will remain in my ever-expanding arsenal of tools. Replacement by an expensive dealer or abroad.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine
