I built the rig on Black Friday 2017 when the 1080 Ti was literally half the price it is now. It was on a Mini-ITX motherboard (ASUS Z270-I) that was put into an Elite 130 along with two 3.5" hard drives. To call it crowded would be an understatement. It performed surprisingly well given the fan placement, but the performance was definitely underwhelming. wasted due to lack of space. I was willing to part with it and put together a new one this month, but couldn't justify the cost. He may be almost 3 years old but he is more powerful compared to what he has now. What you see here are the same components but in this new Corsair 280X. This is half of the motherboard case, with two intake fans on the right side and one exhaust fan on the top. The other half (not shown) contains a power supply and hard drives. This new case, along with a heatsink reinstall using Arctic MX-4 paste, gave the CPU an additional 10C of headroom. I guess I'll wait until 2023 for the next one.
