Couldn't help but focus on this thing

My 5 year old son is very interested in science so I thought this would make a great Christmas present and we could do something fun together. He's already walking around with a magnifying glass so I thought it would be a fun way to document interesting finds etc. So I'm not a complete idiot and a photographer myself so I have a general idea of focus, light, distance, how to fix gadget issues, but I couldn't bring myself to focus on one thing. All I could see was a blurry mess of color, which I pointed to no matter what I did. I read the instructions, was right on the microscope setup, fiddled with the illumination and the (right) focusing tube, set the distance manually and nothing. And I think I feel like if I can't figure it out, neither can my kid. I want our exploration of the microscopic world to be fun, not frustrating. I'm frustrated I can't get it to work. We had such high expectations and loved being able to take photos/video to document or send to grandparents. The telescope function should be an added bonus. Overall the product looks "cool" and I know wearing it would make my son feel like a real scientist. I also like that it's portable. In the morning I can try again, but if I didn't miss anything at all I will return it. I would like to thank Andonstar for creating an article that appeals to children and encourages their interest in science. I hope others have better luck than me. This world needs this generation of children to grow up with love and faith in science!
