Review on ๐Ÿ›ข๏ธ POR-15 Fuel Tank Quart by Craig Galante

Did the best job in Fuel Tanks & Accessories

So let me warn you that I'm one of those people who doesn't always follow the rules exactly. I sealed two 5 gallon fuel tanks from an SUV that were leaking at the bottom seams. I first cleaned them of internal rust by inserting a handful of small screws into the tanks and shaking them for a while to knock off the loose rust. Good work. I then degreased them with a strong commercial degreaser. I then soaked them in muriatic acid for several hours to remove most of the remaining surface rust. I then made a phosphate conversion coating with a Dupont automotive product that I use when painting cars. Remember to rinse thoroughly and dry completely between steps. The end result was a nice, clean, slightly rough surface that had the typical color of phosphate treated steel. He was ready. I then followed the directions on the can and filled up with POR. Everything moved to cover the tanks. They say not to allow any accumulation in the tank and to drain the excess. Well when I did that I felt the coating in the tanks was too thin. So after a while I applied a second layer. It really helped. Even being careful of puddling didn't stop me from draining some of the POR into the recesses where the container was crimped. It filled the seam well. Everything has solidified wonderfully. I let the whole thing harden in a warm place for a week before filling up with diesel. The end result is a very nice tank liner, good coverage, seams sealed and no leaks. I checked to see if the POR had hardened where the puddle formed and yes it was rock hard. So I broke their rules but obviously got a better result. They also scare you to death so as not to save too much. Being a troublemaker once again I left the excess in a small jar to keep the air out of the POR, sealed it tightly and put it in the shed for a week to see if it exploded. Nothing. It's still liquid to this day. I would try to use it if I had another sealing problem in the near future. So I warned you that I broke the rules but this stuff works really well and I haven't had a problem since I did this job 4 months ago. Follow my experience at your own risk.
