I use rubber gloves to rub and a paper towel to dry. I use it the day after every fire to keep deposits from forming because I don't think our wood has really aged. It's really easy with this procedure. Not washable and very clean. Much easier than using ash and water. Update: We are in our second season. I've found that if I come back to clean glass after cleaning the glass with a pea-sized dose of cleaner, let it dry a bit (while removing the ash) and then wipe the glass, it leaves marks. a transparent film that will "protect” the glass from the accumulation of soot next time. It may seem like you're wasting your cleaner, but you'll find that you need less cleaner AND less effort to remove soot from the glass. I only need half a paper towel for the whole process. i love this stuff
