Review on πŸ“· Rokinon RK8MBK28-E 8mm F2.8 UMC Fisheye II Fixed Lens for Sony E-Mount (NEX) Cameras - Black by Brooke Watts

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great lens! Long exposures, infrared and fisheye are fun but not good for macro photography.

Amazing lens! Small, robust and visually fantastic. I enjoyed photographing the Milky Way with this lens. I also just switched the NEX to IR and it turns out to be one of the best wide-angle lenses I have currently for IR (other wide-angle lenses have a lot of light diffusion issues, especially with the aperture; this one lets you reduce the viewing angle a little and still get no hot spots). The only thing I don't like is that the close-up focus isn't very good - it only affects very small parts of the shots I've ever taken. take, so that's not a big problem for me, but please note. The close-up focus is about 1ft, which isn't enough if you want a small flower or detail to fill the frame (or if you want to do a "big nose" person or dog trick). I believe the older f3.5 fisheye model has a more accurate focus, at least my friend's alpha version. The extension tubes are too thick to allow for macro focusing on such a short focal length lens, but I found that I could remove the lens and extend it about a millimeter to allow for close-up focusing, but to do that you need to rotate the lens by 45 degrees to be rotated to half fit into the mount, and then trim the petal cap, which is no longer aligned, the edges of the image. Because the lens hood cannot be removed on this lens, it is not easy to repair.
