Best Budget Surge Protector Tripp Lite

Pros: - Price - Tripp Lite Guarantee (details below) - Multiple connectors specifically for power supplies - Has a higher joule rating than any other What I say about this Price Cons: - Ports can be VERY tight at first, but once used they are much easier to work with - No USB ports I won't be buying any other brand again. I used to work in TV and laptop retail and one of my jobs was selling accessories. I wanted to make more money (and keep my job), but I also wanted to do my best for the customer, so I decided to learn as much as I could about each accessory and refer people to the ones they need. and away from those who didn't. I would say that what I've learned about network filters over the years has been the most fruitful. Many people believe that a surge protector once bought will last forever, and that's not true. Most (if not all) surge protectors come with a 1-3 year warranty for some reason, and that's because the advertised Joule rating is a cumulative and not a constant level of protection. If your SP is rated at 1000 joules and you are struck by 1100 joules of lightning, you have just lost all of your SP's protection and may have lost other gear in the process, but measuring the force of the impact is not easy. so you can always have protection that's little more than a glorified extension cord. Due to the lack of predictability, I rely heavily on the warranty that is included. Over the years I've heard and seen many stories about roasters (be it SP or connected devices) and people trying to use their warranties to replace products only to be rejected. In my experience, Tripp Lite excels here. I've heard stories of them replacing entire home theater setups with very few questions and no issues. I've heard stories of SP salvaging their hardware but dying in the process and Tripp Lite replacing that hardware for free. I've even heard they once offered a 10-year SP warranty, and that's virtually unheard of. I'm not saying every experience will be 100% the same, but I KNOW the experiences I mentioned aren't common (in fact, they're unheard of for some companies) and I feel more confident knowing that I have at least a good chance of it. My guarantee will be honored. I also know that Tripp Lite (some Belkin SPs do this too) have hardware in their SPs that actually turns ports off if they don't protect them, making it much easier to know when to change hardware.

Pros
  • PROTECT ANY ELECTRONIC DEVICE FROM POWER SUPPLY AND OVERVOLTAGES: A dual output surge protector protects your PC, laptop, printer, scanner, router, phone, fax, modem, TV, lamp or other home/office protection Protect electronics from dangerous surges, surges, and line noise
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
