Better than rubbing with fingertips, but not by much. If the surface of the piston changes, if it is not perfectly flat and smooth, the suction cup is very close to being unusable even if the recessed surface is fully inside the suction cup. And even if the bulb is totally flat, it's only marginally better than your fingertips. You would think they would make better quality suction cups for this very common application, a better suction cup that could be tightened by tightening a screw, or a caliper that might only grab the outside of the bulb but still fit the socket . . It is surprising that this market has not been filled given the very widespread need. *twitched*
