Review on Tamron SP 35mm F/1.8 Di VC USD Lens for Nikon (Model F012) by Carlos Alston

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Factory calibration was terrible

Factory calibration was terrible. I have never owned a lens that was so poorly calibrated. In the beginning, the best I could do was set the camera's micro focus to +15, but the focus setting was distance dependent, so anything further than about 4 feet away was still out of focus. I went ahead and ordered a Tap-in Dock. It wasn't easy to find as it was no longer made for Sony, so I had to send it to Ebay from Japan. When I finally calibrated it, the settings that worked well were the following: +20 at close range, +20 at mid range, -5 at far range and also +10 in camera. (20 is the max so I need to add the camera at the top in the tap console settings). Before I calibrated the focus it was very disappointing. He will lose focus or keep chasing. I'll see if my opinion improves after adjusting it. Other: The processing quality is good. The manual focus ring is smooth and pleasant to use (I had to use it a lot when the autofocus broke). So the reviews said the coating eliminated halos. This was not my experience. I took a few shots with the bright sun in the background and saw a noticeable drop in contrast.

Pros
  • Quick change
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Wish it were lighter, but it's an amazing lens
