Review on Dyson Genuine Replacement Clutch Assembly by Beth Henderson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This is actually a genuine Dyson part!

I'm the type of guy who likes to fix things when I don't have to completely replace them so it was a stroke of luck to find this little gem online. Installation is fairly easy and will fit many old Dyson vacuums which fortunately have many older models that use the same part. The units are supplied with two belts, one connected to the motor drive shaft and the other turning the brush roll. Now just start by pulling the strap around the brushroll is quite a hassle and many recommend getting a special tool that will stretch (and hold) the strap so you can easily pull it over the brushroll. You don't "need" this tool, but it makes things a lot easier. I can attest to this as I didn't buy an extra tool and decided to do it the hard way. And attaching this strap to the brushroll is not an easy task unless you tighten it with something and hold it when you put the brushroll on it after you're done with the last part. And after a few choice words said out loud, I finally got it working in the end. A few more bits of information to add on this is that my repair was for a Dyson DC-33 model. I've had a vacuum for over a decade and the original clutch assembly literally lasted that long so I'm hoping to get the same life with this replacement as well. The Dyson DC-33 requires a torx screwdriver to remove the case and access the old clutch assembly, to warn you all. You'll need a Torx T15 screwdriver (about 5-6 inches long for the third lower screw), which I didn't have, but I got one from my local Ace Hardware site for about $6. Bottom line is I have refurbished my Dyson with this part working like new again and it is great to have this vacuum working again as it is one of the best they have ever made. If your vacuum brush roll stops when it hits the carpet, the clutch assembly on these vacuums is almost always to blame, so it should be fine after replacing it.
