Review on Mighty Mule Wireless Driveway FM231 by Glen Elevyn

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Low tech and I love it!

Between fans and air conditioning, I can't hear anyone driving on my 100ft gravel road. I updated various items around my house to interact with Alexa, looked for some sort of alarm in my driveway, and found this little gem. It's low-tech - so no Alexa - but who cares! He does his job. I thought carefully about the installation and left it in the box for 3 weeks before attempting to reattach it. It ended up with some PVC piping and a 90 degree cable management connector (as explained in previous reviews). The small piece of gray PVC that the transmitter sits on will not fit the tubing you buy. I assembled everything and checked by waving a shovel over the "stick" at the end of the cable. It worked. I dug and laid a trench parallel to my entrance. It did not work. I was concerned that it wasn't close enough to where the cars were going (my lane will be wider - I placed it at the edge of my yard - but farther than the recommended 2ft from where the cars were going). actually driving). I dug it up again (the main purpose of PVC I think is to prevent the cable from being cut while digging) - and turned it perpendicular to the driveway - and laid the "stick" parallel and within 2 feet of the tracks in my lane. At the transmitter end, I found out that the reason this thing wasn't working was that USB was disabled during the initial setup. So lesson learned - if it doesn't work, test it first! Anyway, plugged the cable back in and everything works. Nice. It's been up for about 3 weeks now and I now know when someone pulls into the driveway - garbage trucks, UPS and expected and (more importantly) unexpected visitors. Thumbs up Mighty Mule!
