And this is important to me - the default mode for this thermometer after turning it on is to disable alarms. Many times I've looked back at this thing after I've started cooking and found that my temperature was about 10-15 degrees too high and not once did the alarm go off. Experienced smokers (ha!) know that bringing the temperature down once you get past it is quite difficult. Is something that has happened to me more than once related to this issue? Changing batteries while cooking. The device has memory to remember your temperature settings, but not your alarm settings for some weird reason. If you change the batteries during use, turn it back on and it will turn off the alarm by default. I will say that this is a pretty good thermometer once you get over this major drawback.
