This is a great starter kit from Daniel Eichhorn. In case you don't know Daniel Eichhorn, he wrote a great little book called the ESP8266 Weather Station. This kit includes a downloadable PDF of his book (you can also get the book separately here on Amazon). The book is fantastic - not short, not too long, it covers everything I need to get my ESP8266 NodeMCU board working with the Arduino IDE. I could go on and on about this, but let's talk about the kit first. The kit includes a small OLED screen, a NodeMCU ESP8266 board, a DHT11 temperature sensor, connection cables, a USB to Micro USB data cable, as well as a nice project box and a download code for the book. I was really impressed with what I learned while assembling. * I learned to write my first "Hello World" program. Remote web server.* I've learned about some good free services for getting weather information and temperature logs from multiple locations.* I've started learning about using Oled displays, different fonts, etc. (this is a big topic, so I still have a lot to learn ) It's worth noting that several of the libraries used in the book were written by the author and contributed to the Arduino community - it has a lightweight JSON parser and a whole library for working with an OLED screen. I've also noticed that the author is very responsive to questions here, on his blog, and on Twitter. Overall, I highly recommend this kit and the e-book that comes with it. There is nothing special about the parts in the kit - they could be bought separately, but it was nice to know that the components in the kit work exactly as described in the book, with no surprises. As a beginner, I really appreciated that. +++
