Review on ๐ŸŽง Audio-Technica ATH-PG1 Closed-Back Premium Gaming Headset: Enhanced Gaming Experience with 6" Boom Microphone by Katie Coleman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Finally an AWESOME gaming headset (TL;DR at the end) - video on with mic on!

If you want to buy a gaming headset. Most people choose well-known "gamingโ€ brands like Steelseries, Razer and ASTRO. But all headsets from these "gaming" brands have their drawbacks. Some have great sound but terrible mics. Some look great, but wearing them is unbearable. And some even have awesome side lights so you can show off your favorite colors that you don't even see when you put them on. With this headset, the Audio Technica ATH-PG1, they don't compromise and offer you the best bang for your buck. Just to be clear, I'm a 20 year old gamer and small YouTuber who used to play Modern Warfare 2 competitively on console to play Counter Strike: Global Offensive on PC. I still play on BOTH platforms so I have to fit the two roles when choosing a headset. As a longtime gamer, I've tried LOTS of headphones. Starting with TurtleBeach (in the good old 360 days), Tritton, ASTRO, Steelseries, HyperX and finally Audio Technica. I had a pair of ATH-M50x, another famous (and probably the best) headphone you can get for your money, also from Audio Technica. They fit me perfectly for PC gaming, but unfortunately I didn't have a way to record my mic so my friends could hear me, so I couldn't use it for console gaming. And here is the saving grace, ATH-PG1. They're SUPER light and extremely comfortable, even better than the HyperX Cloud II I've had (which has been dubbed "the most comfortable gaming headset ever"). The sound isn't quite the M50x, but it's a little worse in the bass range, which isn't a bad thing at all (more on that later). The overall sound is superior to any previous "gaming" headset I've owned. The quality of the microphone is EXCELLENT. Combine this with the ASTRO Mixamp and you'll be spot on. The mic is warm and delivers good bass for such a small condenser. It's not only good for chatting with friends on Discord or Xbox Live, but also for voiceovers and comments. It all seems too good to be true and it is true, believe me. However, there are two small issues to be aware of before purchasing this headset. First, very little resilience. For some people who wear glasses or have big heads, this is great. However, this can cause sound to leak and sometimes get into the microphone when played at high volume. Again, I've never come across a headset that does NOT bleed into the mic at high volume, as this is almost inevitable given the mic is so close to the sound source. Low clamping force can also be an issue with the aforementioned slight lack of bass. The lack of bass isn't a bad thing, as gaming requires focusing on footsteps and positional cues, which are mostly in the mid-high range. So I don't know if this is a bug or if the player has an advantage during the game. In any case, these two problems should be treated with caution. Because written like that, it sounds like a crucial question. But in practice this is not a problem at all. Verdict: Of all the headsets I've bought, this is by far the best. The BEST you can get for under $200. If you want to know which headsets I've used (in order), here they are: TurtleBeach X11, Titton AX720, Tritton Detonators, ASTRO A30, Steelseries Siberia V2, ASTRO A40 (2009 release), Steelseries Siberia Elite, HyperX Cloud II and ASTRO. A40 (Release 2011) Yes, that's a lot of wasted money ^^ TL; DRG Get these headphones ASAP. They have the best mic and audio quality you can get in an all-in-one headset under $200. PS: If you want to know how the mic sounds, my unboxing and review video of this mic is fully commented. Thank you for reading! The YouTube channel is called LLIMIT GAMING.
