My ACD Beyond Pup LOVES people in the moment and every time he sees a person he will literally swing back and pull very hard, which scares a lot of people and makes them feel aggressive. I used a choke chain (which I use on all my dogs) and I just couldn't take it anymore. He choked himself too hard. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get him to "stop" or ignore people. Walking with him just wasn't a joy for either of us. I thought about the e-collar but really didn't want to go that route. My sister mentioned the spiked collar she uses on her dog/human, the aggressive GSD. I used it in my garden to introduce him to him and the reaction was immediate. He stopped pulling and was right next to me, looking at me for direction. I thought hmmm we're in the backyard now, let's see how he behaves in the real world with people and other distractions. Well let me tell you he did a great job! The first person passed and he started walking towards them and I said "don't" and pulled a little and he stopped dead in his tracks. We went to the park where I knew there would be more distractions and by the third meeting he had already forgotten. He only looks and perceives people/dogs, but no longer becomes convulsive. I believe in these collars. As long as you do the research and fit it properly to your dog, it's not torture or pain to your dog. I wanted 2.25mm for the lighter pins but I was afraid they would be too small so I went with the middle 3.0mm. I had to take out 3 links and they are still too loose. But he's only 7 months old so they should fit perfectly as he gains some weight over the next few months. And I'm definitely glad I got a quick release. I'm a little girl and these links are terrible to take on and off. I use a carabiner attached to the "dead" ring and its flat collar as a safety net in case of an unforeseen breakage of the spiked collar. This does not affect the function of the collar at all.
