Bad Design: Backpacks

Reading the rave reviews for this backpack makes me think we just got a lemon. As with all North Face products the quality is excellent so I have nothing to complain about. It's just that the design is just awful. After my son carried it to 6th grade for two days, I realize I wasted my money. As mentioned in some other reviews, the backpack will not fit as the hard back is very high. He bends forward and then falls. There is only one "big" compartment and a very small half compartment in the front, so it's impossible to keep organized with all the little things that kids have to take to school today. The "big" compartment is not very big. I call it that simply because it runs the full height of the backpack as opposed to the small one which is half the height, if at all. There's plenty of room at the bottom of the main compartment, but there's a narrow opening to access the space. The zipper is too short as other reviewers have noted. (I should have paid more attention to them.) Also, with a small 1.5 inch binding, a spiral notebook, a couple of pocket folders, and a couple of art supplies, there wasn't room for anything else in the compartment. There are no lockers. at my son's school so he has to take everything with him. The capacity is too small even for a high school, and what little there is is not easily accessible. I'm not sure how this design got into production. on it and opt for Borealis instead. I'm sorry I didn't. My daughter has one and it has served her well and will continue to do so. Lesson learned (the hard way).
