Review on Chemical Guys TVD_108_16 Plastic Rubber by Michael Bressler

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great for restoring faded automotive plastics

Although marketed as 'Tire & Trim' and works well on tires I was interested in the finish. I have a couple of old cars (Volvo 2001 and Durango 2002). The paintwork is immaculate and they are in good condition. Plastic trim parts such. B. Molded body parts, have become significantly dull and gray over the years due to exposure to sunlight, salt, etc. On the Volvo these panels are dark gray when new, while on the Durango they are black. I sprayed them with Dub Tire as it darkens them and lasts at least a couple of weeks before they fade. However, the Dub product is a spray, which means you spray it gently over large areas, or spray onto a rag for tighter areas. Oak isn't cheap either and I use it for my tires so I always run out. "Surfaces. They essentially melt their surface, but not visible to the naked eye. While this works very well, it's not something you want to do all the time as it weakens the plastic. I've done this once on both machines but then I mixed them in. The results were great. OK, so. Chemical Guys Tire & Trim Gel. AWESOME. It's a gel that's thin enough to pour onto a washcloth but thick enough to pour not to run all over the body.I used it very little to wipe on two machines on the plastic. It works great. It darkens the plastic just as well as the dub product and also adds a little shine. There being a gel it's a bit easier to apply by hand in hard to reach areas eg around springs, lights etc. This product works great on tires and I love that I don't have to worry about overspray on the car or the wheels like I do with Oak. But the gum wasn't my target - it was a faded O tdelka. This product will not cover highly milky plastic. If it's faded to gray and has some white, it works, but it contains a lot of white, not a lot. A heat gun can sometimes help here. Again, this is NOT for everyone. I have included photos of Volvos with plastics and tires treated with this product. I built the car with Dub about 3 months ago, so I can't show you the general "before". However, the second photo shows the spot I deliberately left out to test the Dub and now the Tire & Trim Gel. You can see how light the bottom is compared to the top. The upper part is also part of the bumper and was the most worn. Other photos show the roof rack of a 7 year old minivan. You can see a big difference before and after. This product may not bring the plastic back to showroom condition, but it will give you 90% or more return this way. Also works on Faded/Milky Metal, by the way. The finish makes them glossy black like the wiper arms. This usually only takes a week or two. The main question is how long it lasts. I'll update this review once I see how it looks in a week or two.
