Review on Bestop 7540015 TrekStep Side-Mount - Chevy/GMC Silverado/Sierra 1500/2500/3500 (2001-2018) - Ideal for Either Side by John Arsov

Bestop or AMP Research - tried individually - none passed.

Bought used from Revain (box damaged but all parts included). There is only one 'used' step and I really wanted a step on either side of the truck. So a few days later I also bought an AMP Research Bed Step 2. This item was also used (box damaged, all parts included). This Bestop level is specific to the side of the truck, while the AMP product can be fitted to either side. 1 strike against Bestop. Although the AMP product came with no installation instructions, I was able to do a quick web search and download the instructions from the AMP website. Bestop's instructions were in the box. However, and I know this is a small side note, the instructions give the wrong measurements for the few sockets and wrenches required. small yes But it's very hard to get under the truck with the tools listed and then get back up and get the measurements right a few times when you can get to the various bolts. Strike 2. Bestop's final fatal flaw is that it doesn't fit without having to drill a few new holes in the stabilizer arms. While I was able to drill a few holes to install the levers, I also noticed that once these levers were installed, the fuel line would rest right up against the metal edge of the lever. It's fine when stationary, but over time it's not as good as the truck moves on the road, and the rubber-to-metal contact will be subject to the road vibrations common to driving. Slap 3. While the Bestop step looks pretty good from a practical point of view and has a non-slip metal step and it could work well with some modifications, I wouldn't use it on the driver's side of your F-350. Unless you want to re-route the fuel line. Another option is to spend just a few more dollars and get the AMP Research Bed Step 2. The stabilizer for this goes to the bed mount and not the bed rail that the fuel line attaches to.
