Good quality at a nice price for a home garage / shop

This ReelWorks 33 ft air hose reel is as pictured and exactly what I was hoping for my home garage / shop. It's well-constructed. The mounting bracket allows it to swing in-line with the direction the hose is being pulled. The mouth has rollers, the recoil mechanism seems solid and so far has worked well. This air hose itself is a quite good (commercial) quality black rubber hybrid with brass fittings. Finally, IMO, the < $100 price was good.I installed it in the front inside corner of a largish (21' x 22.7') 2-car garage and use it mainly filling motorcycle and car tires and light blowing. I vacillated for a while on which model and hose length to buy (33' or 65' ReelWorks or 50' Goodyear, which I think is the same manufacturer). My corner mount location is somewhat space-constrained. I ended up sweeping my garage with a large measuring tape to visualize the hose length needed before settling on this 33' one. It works. The 33' hose reaches all 4 wheels of a car parked on the far side of the garage, going around (not draping over) the car. It also reaches all 4 tires of a car parked outside the garage in front of the door where the reel is mounted. So, it's compact but sufficient. Some of ReelWork's published information conflicts and dimensions aren't listed for some models which made comparisons difficult. (I think they made some upgrades to this product but didn't follow through upgrading all the marketing and packaging text). Anyway, here's what I got:The actual dimensions of this ReelWorks L705102A 1/4 in x 33 ft Retractable Air-Hose Reel are 12" H x 13.6" D x 6.3" W. These are the same dimensions in the blue-print style image on some sites. The dimensions in the descriptive text were not accurate (at least when I wrote this). It comes with a pre-connected 3' lead-in hose and 33' main hose, both with brass NPT threaded fittings. The lead-in hose can be changed / swapped out if you need to. The hose on mine has 300 PSI printed on it, which is what the ReelWorks (Great Circle US) website now says it is (in some spots), even though the box was labeled 180 PSI. While the description says the hose is a rubber-PVC hybrid (and I assume it is) to me it looks and feels like a commercial rubber air hose. Given the hose quality, for light use (150 PSI working pressures) I wouldn't worry at all about it being 1/4". For me 1/4" is a benefit / was a selling point. That said, if you are looking for a hose reel to use with higher pressure automotive impact tools, I'd step up to 3/8".It came with a female Industrial (M-style) coupler, a male Industrial plug, and a roll of Teflon tape, which was nice. Depending on what you're plugging into it though, you'll probably still need a quick-connect coupler and plug kit. For example, I needed a female Industrial plug to connect the lead-in hose to my compressor (The most common connectors are "Industrial" type connectors, a.k.a. "M-style" / red color code.)Finally, it also came with two 5/16" x 3" lag bolts and washers for mounting. The 3" bolts are a safe bet for a ceiling mount. Since I did a wall mount (less pull and no risk of it ever crashing down on me or a car), I bought a couple shorter 5/16" lag bolts from the hardware store, measuring twice and ratcheting them into the wall before mounting the unit then using an open-ended wrench to tighten them down the last bit. That's what I've got. It's a nice hose reel, decent quality for the price, I'm happy with it. Hope this helps someone.

Pros
  • Super easy to install. Good quality. Good value. Thank you.
Cons
  • The hybrid polymer material can sometimes break down over time and may need frequent replacements
