They are well packaged, but always "on" - no switch. So they sat down on one of the batteries, the other two worked fine but inaccurately. One had a deviation of 3 degrees, the other 6 degrees. Then the batteries in these died after about 2 weeks. So if you buy this, buy extra batteries along the way and have other reliable thermometers to check temperature readings.
