First I posted a comment on Ms. Mordechai's 1 star review (please read). I understand your frustration and don't want to minimize your frustration; However, this ball head deserves to be heard on its own. Background: I have a FlexShooter Pro ballhead, although I didn't purchase it through Revain. I also have many other tripod heads from various manufacturers including Acratech, Arca-Swiss, Cullmann, Kirk, FLM, Gitzo, Leitz, Linhof, NPC Pro, Manfrotto, Markins, Miller, PMG, RRS, Sachtler, Tiltall, Uniq-Ball. and Wimberley; So I have experience with tripod heads for over 50 years. A bit of history: Aiming a camera on a tripod is not an easy task. The old method was to adjust your legs over and over again until you get bored or close enough, whichever comes first. Then came leveling sockets of various kinds: some replaced the tripod's base plate or platform with a bowl and attached the head to a hemisphere that could be adjusted and fixed in the bowl, while others replaced the fixed platform (or attached it to the top). ) with an adjustable platform that could be rotated several degrees in any direction. Both work. Both are not cheap. And I personally prefer the bowl/semi-ball approach over the overhead turntable. Then came the Uniq ball: a ball within a ball. You adjusted the outer sphere horizontally and can then freely align the camera with the inner sphere. Very easy. There are two models: let's call them medium and large. Both work well enough. And there are many famous photographers who use them. But trouble happened in paradise. I don't know the politics of the situation; However, the Uniq Ball designer took his balls and headed home to found another company that made - you guessed it - the FlexShooter Pro - a new version. Uniq-Ball Medium), Pro (similar to Uniq-Ball Large) and Extreme (just insanely big - or for two cameras with telephoto lenses attached at the same time). Out of the box, the Mini works and performs well, but I don't recommend it: it's just rather non-standard, so its use, which requires interfacing with devices from other brands, can be problematic. Pro and Extreme, on the other hand, are great. Do you remember our angry designer? Well, he took a great idea and made it way better. The Pro and Extreme not only solve the alignment problem as gracefully as the Uniq ball, but also add a balance system that vaguely resembles video fluid heads (not quite right, but if you try it you'll get the idea). You mount the camera, balance it on your head, and without fiddling with the tension knob, the spring mechanism inside the ball head allows you to position the camera vertically just how you want it. And he just stays there. It really is like that. Brilliant Another feature: clip. the one Mrs. Mordecai had no plate for. The clamp is a square clamp that allows the Arca-Swiss plate to be inserted side-to-side or front-to-back. It has two controls in the back corners, one for the clip alone and the other for the camera position. Coming from traditional ballheads, it took me a while to get used to the FlexShooter method; However, after spending some time with it, it has now become second nature. No complaints, just different. I'm not saying the FlexShooter Pro is the best ball out there; However, it's an unusual solution to an age-old problem, and it's on par with the very best tripod heads from any manufacturer. And in my opinion, it easily deserves 5+ stars. Added: Out of everything I've ever used, my three favorite traditional ball heads are the Arca Swiss Z1, FLM CB-58, and Markins Q20. My favorite unconventional ball heads are Acratech Ultimate, Burzynski and FlexShooter Pro/Extreme. There are also three other categories of tripod heads that I haven't considered: gear heads, gimbal heads, and moving heads. Maybe another time.
