Volkswagen makes great products but often curses them with poorly designed components. The vacuum pump is one such part. Designed with a mediocre seal which would be unethical to offer parts to repair separately. But no. VW insists you buy a brand new $300 pump when all you need are two rubber grommets and a gasket. Finally someone found the necessary parts and put them into this wonderful and affordable kit. The large orange seal that usually fails looks the same as the OEM. The metal gasket for the base is most likely original. Also included is an o-ring for the vacuum port which I haven't seen in many tutorial videos. I think this is important as the port fitting was quite loose when I removed the pump. A new O-ring tightens it without play. This little gasket set is the solution to a really annoying and unnecessarily expensive problem. There are many videos online to help you remove the pump; and yes it can be done on the machine without removing the gearbox from the engine. The supplier also has an online video to help you rebuild your pump. Some of the screws are hard to see/access and installing the pump is a little tedious, but certainly not rocket science. I recommend putting on the pump housing and then installing a new gasket to avoid damaging it. Good product!
