This winch worked like I hoped it would. I used it on my clothesline which is vinyl coated steel cable. To be honest, I had imagined it to be smaller, it's a bit bulky. However, once it was on the line and I tightened it, I was spot on. Instructions (or packaging, for that matter) were not included. All I did was walk from one end of the line to the end without leaving the other side. Then he did the same with the other end. Hold both lines with one hand, with one part of the line holding and the end of the other part sticking out of the center post. Then he turned the winch with his other hand. I managed to pull the line very taut. I'm out of cord now, even after pulling the heavy blankets off the cord. I can sag a little over long periods of time, but I know it'll tighten again after a turn of the winch. Easy to use and weather resistant. Very strong and galvanized steel.
