Key data: During the entire heating cycle, the device consumes between 1020 and 1055 W. With a room temperature of 72 F at sea level, it takes just over 10 minutes to heat water from 70 F to full boiling (212 F) after which it shuts off. After 3 minutes the water had cooled slightly to 205F. Good: borosilicate! If the glass is indeed borosilicate glass, that should mean it is thermal shock resistant, reducing the chances of the device exploding when heated or cooled. This kettle is very easy to use. The handle has a rocker switch near the thumb, and the switch itself physically toggles to the off position after the water quickly boils. The lid is spring loaded and opens when the button on top of the handle is pressed. A ring of blue LEDs illuminates the entire kettle as it heats up, although others may not like this feature. The kettle is installed on the base in such a way that the device works as long as it is in the middle. It doesn't matter which way it points. Cons: The power cord is 3/8" in diameter and only 27" long. This is a heavier and stiffer power cord than any other kitchen appliance, including the 1600w home grill. The base is very light as it only contains the electrical contacts and the power cord itself and the stiffness of the cord makes the base move even when the kettle is not standing on it. It will sit on your countertop however it wants. The kettle's instructions for use are very clear about not getting water on the bottom contacts, which means any refilling is risky, especially if you only fill through the spout as recommended. The filter screen is almost useless as only the bottom of the filter forms a barrier against the glass leaving a large gap at all points above the bottom of the filter. The plastic feels very flimsy and I feel like I could accidentally break the filter or cap when the cap is open. Orange or red would be a better choice for LED colors as these colors are usually associated with "hot". For the price I paid I don't think it's that bad, but I regret not having spent the extra money on a better product.
