Our whole family plays chess and over the years I have found that our favorite sets are NOT the expensive or fancy sets, but rather the ones that are most practical and stand up to frequent use. . It's actually one of my favourites. I love the little details, they're perfect for little hands (my kids use this set a lot) and I love that everything is self-contained. We don't play checkers that often, but it's nice to know that we can play checkers with this set if we want to. The chess pieces themselves are magnetic and quite strong - enough that you can lift the board 90 degrees. and the pieces don't fall. My kids even tried flip chess but the poor little ones got really dizzy (but the pieces stayed on the board!) The pieces in Checkers aren't magnetic but then again we don't play that often so it doesn't really matter. us. Overall we are very happy with this set. Definitely recommend.
