Review on Sony STR-DH520 7.1 Channel 3D AV Receiver (Black) - Discontinued Model by Amanda Webber

I wanted an inexpensive HDMI AV Receiver with all the features in the world. Well this is the closest I could get and I am very happy with this purchase. If you use all HDMI devices like me, it will take about 5 minutes to set up. HDMI to TV. Connect speakers. Turn on the TV. Turn on the receiver. Enjoy. Great sound right out of the box! With a little tweaking, it sounds fantastic, especially for a $200 bedroom surround sound system. I have a more expensive setup in my living room and I have to say this receiver sounds great in comparison. For the speakers I use old (at least 15 years old) Bose speakers, bookshelf size I think. About 12 inches tall. Big speakers help with the bass and even with those old speakers it sounds like a movie theater in my room. I also hid a subwoofer (you need an active one) and wow! at 50 watts, so I didn't turn it all the way up, but the thing is loud enough that I'm worried my neighbor might hear it (house, not apartment). How to use it as there are many presets to choose from. The menus are easy to navigate once you understand how they work. I really like the lack of an OSD as I can adjust settings without having to close the view. If the menus were more complex the OSD would be better but I like it the way it is due to the amount of features available. You can only adjust the treble and bass on the front speakers, so there's not much going on in the EQ. Department. It fits me. However, you can adjust the individual volume and make the speaker "bigger”. Some people complain that this system doesn't convert analog video to HDMI. You just won't get it at this price. Is it really a big deal? I connected an analogue signal and when I want to see it I just switch the input on my TV from HDMI to video (that's what it says on my TV) and here is my picture. It's actually not that difficult. Or you can spend a few hundred more so you don't have to. I'm picky about my sound even though I'm not a music lover. I'm not new to surround sound systems and this system sounds very good. Low price factor and it sounds amazing! For this price you won't find anything better.
