Review on πŸ”Œ Black Cast Distributor Cap for Small Block Chevy - Pertronix D134600 by Eddie Gordon

Misleading advertising! Ignition Parts

Don't be fooled by ads or sellers who tell you it has a "cast iron" pinion gear. The gear is actually "hardened" and will destroy the camshaft drive gear in a stock 289 or 302 rollerless engine. The gear that comes with the distributor is the same steel gear that others sell. The cast drive gear would be rough and look like a casting from your original manifold or cylinder block side. The gear supplied with Pertronix is a smooth steel gear. By the way, Pertronix customer service sucks! They never answered my emails with questions about the drive material. Luckily the distributor itself is very good, so I bought a cast iron gear and replaced the "hardened" gear. Also, the installation instructions are fuzzy at best. If you don't look carefully, it's very easy to miswire the distributor. All you have to remember is that the red wire from the distributor MUST be connected to the switched 12V wire. I would buy another one knowing I would have to spend an extra $40 for the proper cast iron sprocket.
