Review on XCSOURCE Mountain Crankset Aluminum CS400 by Rick Bishop

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Cheap, high quality, loud!

How are you KevCentralites?! Obviously we're all looking at them here because they're a cheap way to replace the stamped/riveted 3x setup you had on your cheap/old bike. Of course, they're Chinese alloy, and the machining marks don't bode well, but they'll work, right? That is my experience! While it seems odd that they chose to anodize the crank before completing the mounting surfaces, the cranks hold up pretty well to the abuse on my local trails. The levers have withstood some hard kicking and still rotate properly. Lower mount. It's good. Be careful when inserting the crank as there is a plastic "sleeve" that tends to pop out of the non-drive end. The plastic turnbuckle is flimsy and mine was a little warped either from shipping or its shape so it took a bit of fiddling to get the threads lined up properly to secure the outer arm. If you are looking for other colors these can be found outside of Revain but shipping overseas will take a little longer. ALSO a really good and cheap addition to these cranks for my 1x converters is the Snail product. Typically you have a colored crank (black, red etc) and your chainring sits behind the crank leaving the raw aluminum silver finish on the outside (EW!). Snail Sprocket Bolts come in multiple colors and they hide the unsightly aluminum color to match your cranks or sprocket. The close-up image I've included doesn't have these caps, but the other image does.
