Records well but only in some modes

I bought this product about 2.5 months ago and started using it relatively quickly. It wasn't that difficult to set up if I followed the instructions in the quick start guide and manual. I had time to set it up with my RF modulator (used if you have an old TV); but otherwise set up quickly. Once I set it up I found it fairly easy to use, but I was a bit disappointed with the recording (VHS and DVD) in the lower modes. That means the EP modes, which let you record up to 6 hours on a VHS tape or DVD, were of lower quality. I first recorded on VHS tape in EP mode and was very disappointed with the quality of the recording. Keep in mind that I bought this DVD/VHS recorder to replace a JVC VCR (which I still have) which records in high quality in all modes. Then I decided to burn the DVD in EP mode. It was worse than a VHS tape recording. This means I have to use more VHS tapes and DVDs to record shows from my DVR. However, this also has a good side. The good side of this is that recordings, especially on DVDs, look better in higher modes. This way I can save my favorite shows so I can watch them. , almost exactly as they were when I first recorded them. Plus, after a few months, it's still working perfectly. No problem. I want to see how it works in a year.
