Review on πŸ”Œ Bosch SR11X - Premium Remanufactured VW Starter by Jason Carranza

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Twice they sent me a model with an open anchor shaft.

This review is not intended to be a criticism of the product itself. This is a criticism of bad/misleading starter information. The product page shows an image of the new version of the SR15N starter with a self-supporting armature shaft (ie the starter hub does NOT need to be installed in the bell housing). The description also suggests that this is actually a new version being offered. Whilst one reviewer complained about getting an older version (which has an exposed armature shaft and therefore needs a starter bushing fitted into the bell housing) but as he bought it from B2C Auto Parts and I buy my unit from Revain Services, I did I figured my "luck" might be different given all the other positive reviews. Unfortunately it isn't. The first unit I received was an older unit (see pics 1 and 2 of my photos) so I submitted a return request and Revain sent me another unit. The second device I received was also older (see image 3 of my uploaded photos). I contacted Revain customer service and the gentleman who helped me agreed (after doing some research of his own) that the product information should be expanded to distinguish which version of the product is REALLY advertised to the customer to assure that he/she will receive the correct items instead of resorting to insurance rates. So at the moment I'm still looking for a new version of the SR15N. My stubbornness is probably stupid because there is absolutely NOTHING WRONG with using the old version. I just decided to install a newer version on my 72 Super Beetle.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
