Once set, different volts give the same output signal.
I soldered a barrel connector to the input side and measured the output signals with a voltmeter. By turning it counterclockwise I was able to reduce the voltage of the 9 volt battery down to 3.3 volts. I then connected a 6V battery holder (4 AA batteries) to the barrel socket. Another 3.3 volts. And finally I connected the 19 volt power supply to the barrel jack. There is no difference in the output voltage of 3.3 volts! It took a while to turn the adjustment screw, but once installed the unit works fine.
