After trying various poorly insulated toasters I finally found this one from Geek Chef. The outer shell is enough to keep the heat out. It looks very modern and stylish. The controls are conveniently located and easy to understand. As other reviewers say, even at the highest setting, the dim setting still doesn't produce dark toast. I suspect it has to do with the type of bread you are toasting. I use ciabatta bread, which is very dry and takes longer to toast. This toaster cannot lift the toast to take it out of the nest. I have to use toast tongs to get the bread out. However, if you stand aside when it's done, it fires the toast out of the toaster - I'm toasting small slices of bread again, which is probably why this happens. hehe. My previous toasters were very quiet when the toast emerged. Geek Chef is pretty loud and shocking to me. Every time I make toast I jump up and squeak when it's done. My friend just laughs. Overall I love this toaster.
