The most important feature of the Tavool Rod Finder is its ability to simultaneously detect live AC wires. With no AC detection, you can simply locate the absolute center of the stud and screw the fastener directly into the AC cable running horizontally through the stud. Thus, the AC detection circuit is turned on in both the wood detection mode and the metal detection mode. Tavool makes other similar models with additional features such as plastic pipe detection. Too bad I didn't buy this tool when I found out the pipes in my new house are made of plastic pipes.
