Review on Whiskey Glasses Tumblers Drinking Chrismas by Erick Bowers

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Same aroma/flavor enhancement as Norlan jar but at a better price and with better customer service!

My friend Jim and I tested a James Bentley lens against Norlan and Glencairn lenses using three different bands - MacDuff 33, Ardbeg 22 and The Gov'nor 38- mixing The JB glass is slightly shorter and rounder and the borosilicate glass is thicker than Norlan. Hopefully this also means it's more durable as Norlan tears and breaks easily. The curved outer grooves of the JB are also comfortable to hold. The JB has three thicker ribs or ribs on the underside of the glass compared to Norlan's four smaller ribs. The ability to improve smell and taste by reducing ethanol "burn" is almost the same; every difference is almost imperceptible. In this respect both surpassed Glencairn. While the two ice cube molds that come with the glass are a nice addition to the set, I prefer my straight scotch but will use them with other drinks simply because they're interesting and fun. Anyone from Moscow Mules? I know Jim will definitely use these with his bourbon. I did notice that the stitching on the JB glass wasn't as "clean" as on the Norlan glass, but as they are both hand blown this may have been characteristic of the pair I received. At least, in my opinion, a small thing. I read over 100 reviews before purchasing and what impressed me the most was the great customer service when someone had a problem. Being an artisanal product, not every glass is the same, which is part of its charm. Regardless of the complaint, James Bentley responded to every situation quickly and comprehensively. I have emailed Norlan several questions over the years and have never received a response. I recommend these glasses for the discerning whiskey drinker. Clear winner: James Bentley! Keep it up guys! I have just ordered four more sets to share with my friends. I drink and know a lot! UPDATE - September 23, 2020: It's been over a year and not a single jar out of the dozen I've bought for myself and friends has cracked or broken. Almost half of my Norlan glasses cracked or broke within the first six months.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
