The problem with most scoops like this one is that the holes are too big for a standard litter box, so the small pieces of poo in the litter box go right through the scoop and become a problem. but the holes on this bucket are smaller, and that is rare. I used Tidy Cats litter, which is the same litter size as most cats. The problem with this shovel is that the holes are too small for standard fillers and clean fillers won't go through at all. It sucks. Here's what I did to fix it and it works great. Buying this shovel was the key to the whole problem. I bought another litter called Cats Pride Scoopable from Walmart. It's not that expensive and can be put in the toilet instead of the bin when emptying the tray, so your garbage won't smell bad anymore. This filler is much lighter than regular filler, which comes in handy if you have back problems like me. I have a city sewer, and flushing this garbage didn't clog the toilet. Clean litter chunks are smaller than Tidy Cats and standard litter, so even small chunks of feces and urine won't get through these holes on this scoop, but clean litter will. Problem solved! This works great if you want to be a regular cat mom, but I'm not a regular cat mom because I'm really a dog person. I took it a step further and bought a Litter Kwitter, a kit that teaches cats to go to the bathroom. The trash can is gone! (If you can imagine that!). I spent a week training my 5 unhealthy cats that I had rescued and 4 out of 5 are now strays and I corrected their health issues which was a different issue than toilet training. I have no idea why people say cats can't be trained because they are just as smart and ambitious as dogs and all the different cat trainings I've done have worked. Although all my cats are under a year old. I just applied basic dog training to cats. I didn't know what else to do. You see I'm a dog person who ended up with 5 starving, unhealthy cats dumped on my doorstep. I'm an animal lover and couldn't give them up but as a dog person I have an issue with an animal living in my house throwing feces and urine into a box that sits on the floor and stinks and ends up. Everywhere on the ground we walk I can't believe this is normal cat owner action and makes sense to all of us in one way or another. If you have small children crawling on the floor, it is a health hazard. What if they put trash in their mouths? Small children are curious and the debris ends up on their hands and then in their mouths. Pooh! I am a single mother with a disability and while walking on a floor full of litter I slipped and fell because the cats were throwing him out of the litter box. So when I changed the filler I bought and got the Litter Kwitter system, I got this scoop. Now everything works much better. Very soon I will no longer need a litter or scoop once toilet training is complete. So if you have cats and are struggling with the scoop, this scoop can save you when you change the type of litter you use, even if you don't go the extra mile and implement a litter-kwitter potty training system.
