Review on πŸ” Optimized Search: Sony ICFCDK50 Kitchen CD Clock Radio Under Cabinet by Josh Schweitzer

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great device except for one small issue

Received a Sony device in the usual quick manner from Revain. After unpacking, we read on a small slider in the tray below where the battery of the CR2032 watch is located. I decided to measure the voltage on the battery, so I pulled out the compartment it rides in. I heard a click when I pulled it out, and now it turns out that when I put it back in, the battery has nowhere to connect on the positive side. Also, the tray didn't want to stay inside, I had to press down on the clip holder a bit to make it snap into place. The clock display keeps showing a low battery warning but recently there was a power outage during a thunderstorm and the clock stayed correct after a minute of power outage so I don't quite understand why. Anyway, it doesn't matter to us. The clock is easy to set with the single dial on the left, and our other devices also lose their clock when the power is turned off, so no big deal. The radio picks up the stations well. We can pick up about 8-10 FM stations, some coming from over the mountain almost 20 miles from us. It's going to be mounted on an interior wall in the kitchen, so we didn't give it that extra punch by placing it by the window. The nearest exterior wall and window is around the corner and is over 10 feet away. The CD player works well, even with some of the lower quality CDs that our church has recently released with our worship team. It looks like the radio takes up the bottom of the cupboard shelf slightly as it seems to vibrate a bit when the mega bass is on which only amplifies the sound. When my wife refilled the shelf with cans the sound wasn't as bass heavy so we put the lighter stuff on the bottom shelf and all is good. Some people have complained that there is no "on" button. Instead, press the button for the function you want. FYI, the default radio is FM1, FM2, AM, so those who listen to AM need to press the button three times. But the majority of owners will be on FM, so I think it makes sense to put your five favorite stations on FM1, then FM2, then AM. In general we are completely satisfied, even with a small problem with the battery. My wife loves Christian music when I'm in the store or at work so it worked out great. There are no complaints at all, and it looks great under the cabinet, which is slightly reminiscent of stainless steel. I gave one star due to a battery issue.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons

Worst design Sony ever came up with.
