Review on πŸ–§ NETGEAR AC1200 Wi-Fi USB 3.0 Adapter: Dual Band Wireless Internet Stick for Desktop PC (A6210-100PAS) by Michael Zambrano

Revainrating 5 out of 5

AC1200 Works great but BE CAREFUL, don't use plug and play

First thoughts are very positive. My connection speed went from 20-29 Mbps to 66 Mbps (this is an internet speed test - I get a network connection of 78-144 Mbps) which is amazing what I get when connected via a wired connection am. I have a TP Link AC C8 router. My computer is about 100+ feet from the router and goes through 4 walls. What I like: - I can actually connect to the 5GHz band from the distance I'm at. - I get three times more speed than usual. in wireless mode vs. wireless N. It comes with a docking station. What I didn't like: It's not plug and play. You MUST install the software before using the adapter, which means you must have a working computer to download the software OR carry the CD that came with you at all times. This is a real nuisance, IMHO. My experiences with USB adapters are good. I only had the N wireless adapter, which is very sensitive to where it is. I will update my experience with this adapter in the future. Although so far so good. However, as I write this, the connection is turning "yellow". There are three connection states. White (strong connection), Yellow (weak connection), Red (no connection). However, most often it was on a white background. I paid $15 for it (was a day sale) and I definitely have a feeling it will be worth it if it maintains such connection quality. I hope the quality of the connection does not deteriorate over time.

Pros
  • Faster access with USB 3.0; USB 2.0 compatible
Cons
  • Requires female
