Useful drive center at an affordable price

The Stebb Center allows you to easily and quickly move the workpiece at the driven end. This is useful, for example, when trying to find a balance point for a custom part you are assembling. I ordered this after seeing a friend use a Stebb center on his lathe. This one isn't as well made as the ones he's used, but my experience with PSI lathe accessories has shown that they're generally good value for the money. I installed one of their large conical drive centers on my wood lathe and so far it has served well. About that spring-loaded center pin: It has a raised cut on the shank that contains a set screw. Slightly loosening the set screw allows the pin to move up and down while staying in place. I recommend degreasing the setscrew and socket, applying a dab of medium-strength threadlocker (like Blue Loctite) to the screw, screwing it in until it touches the pin, and tightening it a quarter turn. When you do this, the pin moves freely and the set screw stays in place.
