Three things to consider: lens angle, lighting and sound

Most of us are not professionals when it comes to choosing cameras. As a photographer, I didn't know what to expect from a webcam other than high resolution. So my first camera, which I bought for less than $30, promised a high resolution of 1080, autofocus and light correction. That was great. Then, when I talked about Zoom, I realized that the 110-degree wide-angle lens makes me look smaller than the people I'm talking to. Instead of capturing my head and shoulders, the camera showed my entire torso. When I got closer I looked a bit like a clown and was too close to the screen to be easily seen. This camera also captures the entire room, with the edges of the room curved like wide-angle lenses. I wanted a portrait lens, if available. I couldn't find a portrait lens or a lens with different magnifications, but decided on this camera, the Nexigo N680E. I bought it because it has an 80 degree lens that doesn't really distort space or make my nose look bigger than it is. Eighty degrees is still a wide angle, but not as wide. I don't know why webcams brag about bigger angles like it's better. I see some people celebrating 120 degrees. What's the point of showing so much of your room and making you look distorted? Another thing I bought it for is the ring light around the lens, which you can set to three different intensities. Such light will smooth wrinkles on your face if you have any. My room has a window on the side that has creases, so I like the idea of this ring light. At midday, the ring light doesn't do much, but the highest intensity softens my lines a bit. I like it. This camera has stereo microphones and they are located on the back. When I played the Zoom session, my audio was a little reverberant, just like the other two cameras I tried. Maybe my room contributes to that. Next I'll try using headphones with a microphone to see if it works better. My students listen to me very well. Maybe I'm asking too much to sound like I'm in the studio. You can still dream. Don't know why this is only my 3rd review of this camera, the best I've ever used apart from the built in camera and microphone on my Apple Macbook Air. The privacy cover for the person who wrote the review that there aren't any Cover gave is very small, about the size of a thumbnail. In the box it looks like a free sample of something you can throw away. You will receive two caps and need to stick one on the lens. I'm glad I have two because I immediately abused and took apart the first one I connected. Then I saw the covers. It's tender. The second works fine. the size of a miniature fingernail.
