Review update: 2/27/19 AstroAI contacted me and sent me a set of replacement air chucks. When I received the replacement I had my doubts that I could have the same experience as everything looked identical. Much to my surprise, the new cartridges I received, which still used the 1/4 inch thick rubber seals that I suspected were the problem, didn't cause the same problem. I'm not sure if AstroAI improved the rubber washers or if the original ammo washers I received had any imperfections. Maybe they're using a harder puck now? I can't say for sure as the original washers definitely gave problems. I have included a picture of the replacement cartridges with rubber washers that I received to better show how I installed them on my air compressor. Whatever the problem, this chuck now works correctly with the included rubber grommets where I am. I will be revising my rating from 1 to 5 stars Thank you AstroAI for great customer service and solving an issue I originally had. more for my specific application. I have an integrated air system on my Jeep Wrangler that has the air hoses mounted under my Jeep to conveniently air the tires up and down for off-road use. So this ammo is exposed to the elements installed under my Jeep and that is why the original kit I had became rusty and had to be replaced. Brass does not rust, but metal parts such as springs and pressure levers do. I really wish there was a supplier that makes these cartridges that would either paint the stolen parts or do a full brass assembly to keep the cartridges from rusting. To overcome this I painted and oiled the non-brass parts to combat my concerns about rusting for my application, but this is kind of PIA. It would be nice if the manufacturer made corrosion resistant air hose cartridges. The first overview is complete below. ------------------------------------------ -------- ------ I bought these to replace a similar set of open flow clamps with rusted tire mounting chucks. While the overall design of these cartridges appears to be good, there is one major flaw in their design. Inside the screw is a rubber washer on the side that helps seal the connection of the hose you screw it onto. The rubber washer is 1/4" thick. When you screw these cartridges onto the air hose, the rubber washer compresses, but it compresses too much where the hole in the center of the washer is blocked and therefore will not allow air through the cartridge. When I originally installed one of these I thought it might have been closed flow cartridges as my air compressor was getting back pressure when it was turned on and no air was coming out the end of the cartridge so I removed the cartridge and found that it was indeed the case was an open flow cartridge. Then I started to gradually attach the cartridge to the air hose. In the finger pull state, the cartridge would bleed air out as it should, but as I continued to tighten the nozzle, the airflow through the Nozzle continued to fire where I found it good once he hit the train hold the cartridge hose absolutely no air came out of the cartridge the only thing I could guess was that the rubber washer was compressed to create a proper seal, but at the same time it also covered the inside of the washer that allowed air to flow through the cartridge. I pulled out the rubber washers and re-tightened the chucks on the air hose and indeed the rubber washer seal was the problem. The washers were only 1/8 inch thick and I put these rubber washers in these cartridges. They worked perfectly when I used them in these cartridges, holding the cartridge in place and allowing air to escape from the cartridge. When you buy these cartridges you will either need to remove the rubber washers which are up to about 1/2 their size thick, or replace the washers like I did, or simply hand tighten them onto the hose. Otherwise you risk restricting or blocking the airflow from the cartridge. I have used both cartridges and encountered the same issue with two different air compressors. This poor construction is due to the included rubber washers, otherwise the Open Air cartridge is of decent quality.
