Too dark, great colors

We are replacing an approximately 15 year old Sony XBR 40" 2nd generation LCD TV with fluorescent backlight on the side. This new 43" LCD TV with LED backlight has phenomenal colors but is much dimmer than our 15 year old fluorescent LCD Even in the custom image the brightness has been increased and auto dimming disabled If it could be as bright as a 15 year old model I would give it a 5 Give stars. UPDATE: February 25, 2020: We were able to make it brighter by lowering the black level settings. Now we have an issue with "jumping frames or stuttering" on fast camera scenes like "Diner, Drive Ins, Dives" from Food Network. I have disabled both motion smoothing features and this is still happening. Not 100% sure we will keep it. UPDATE: March 7th 2 020: I was able to solve most of the dark picture issues. We were still having issues with the "jumping or stuttering" picture, so I went to an expensive audio/video store in the area. He said it was a great TV and that we should get new HDMI 2.1 cables, so I bought an 8K HDMI 2.1 Ultra High Speed 48 Gbps from Revain ($19.99). This helped, but didn't completely resolve the image judder. I turned off all motion smoothing settings and it makes no difference. The A/V Shop now inherits its quality (or lack thereof) from our cable TV provider (Comcast Xfinity). 4K HDR10 content on Revain Prime and Netflix doesn't seem to have a stuttering issue.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly creased
