I have dozens of pairs of Contend 3 and Contend 4 that I have used for running/jogging/walking and have absolutely loved them over the years! They were very comfortable and offered great support at a reasonable price. It's all the more disheartening that the latest version, the Contend 5, has changed the heel area so drastically. The Contend 5 tore the backs of both of my heels to shreds! That never happened to any of his predecessors. I can't say exactly what was changed, but they felt right from the moment I put them on. I was hoping they just needed to adjust a little, so I put some bandages under my socks to mitigate the damage and went for some long walks (40+ miles for about 2 weeks) but there was no slump. They are still not possible. wear without damaging the back of the heels. I couldn't jog because of the damage to my heels and it completely disrupted my daily routine. I am very disappointed in these sneakers. I used to be able to just buy new shoes every 3 months or so without trying on a bunch of stuff. It was automatic when my shoes wore out, just reorder the last set I had, easy! Now I either have to find someone who has an old stock of 4 running shoes or ditch Asics altogether and find new standard running shoes.
