Even with the right insertion tool (which is expensive) the rim will tear about 1 in 5 or 6 times once the insert is fully installed. It was neatly drilled and made of incense cedar, not solid wood by any means. Removal was a challenge for me, but I was able to complete the insert by tightening a bolt with a nut onto the insert. The insert then rotated and the nut prevented the insert edge from further chipping.
