Bought a 5-3/4" hole saw to install recessed lights. The 7/16" shank was a very good complement with the 2 pin speed mechanism and fits all regular sized hole saw blades and three center drill bits This hole saw is the thickest and heaviest I've ever used and almost feels like it's made from the same gauge steel as my silhouette targets (I thought I could get cheap thin wood like "Harbour Freight"). only blades that were only good a few times). I was hesitant to use it in my Milwaukee compact impact drill, but it worked perfectly and smoothly through the 1/2" smart -Siding panels that sit against my porch ceiling.I will be using it to install recessed tongue lighting and then grooved pine boards and I don't expect any problems.HEAVY DUTY steel!***UPDATE*** Me got all my recessed lights finished and the hole saw went through 5/8" T&G board perfectly and the blade became dull or burned (soft wood apparently). I'm glad I didn't pay a fortune for such a large size, and I'm glad I can save all that stuff (thorn and bits) for something in the future. Definitely a good deal at $20!
