Review on 2Pcs Walnut Wood Carving Spoon Blanks Unfinished Wooden Craft Whittling Kit For Beginner Kids Whittlers Starter by Doug Taylor

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Excellent blanks; beware of cracking

These blanks are great -- as other reviewers have noted, they're a good size and shape, and have the depth to create a pretty wide variety of spoon/ladle profiles.I got these blanks (and a BeaverCraft knife kit) and went to town before knowing the difference between green wood and dry wood. While I know these aren't green wood, I still found that my first two spoons cracked as they dried further. Like I said I didn't know the difference between green wood and dry wood, and probably did everything wrong: whittled them sporadically over the course of many days, didn't cover them, moved them from climate to climate. I also wasn't expecting to be able to use these practice spoons as actual spoons!Nevertheless, whittlers beware: you might want to bag these between whittling sessions, or otherwise slow the drying process, as it looks like cracking could still be an issue.

Pros
  • Nice grain and good color to the wood.
Cons
  • Wood grain may be uneven
