Installing a 2004 F-250

Used to install a Pioneer FH X700BT in my daughter's 2004 F-250. The 250 F-250 does NOT have a double DIN hole (one and a half DIN) so you will need to change the dash. I found the mounting instructions a bit confusing. They boil down to this: 1-Screw the sides of the bracket to the sides of the stereo with the grooves facing out. Don't tighten them yet. 2-Fix the front panel to decide how you want to place your stereo on the dashboard, recessed or protruding. 3-Move the brackets back and forth until you get the look you want, then tighten the side bracket screws. 4-Remove the front panel to install. (The stereo I installed didn't have room to mount the back panel, so I didn't use it.) There is a lip at the top and bottom of the F-250's stereo hole. You will need to cut or sand down the lips at the top and bottom of the hole. I used a Dremel tool but it didn't seem to have the best attachment. It was messy and took a little while. I had to shorten a little bit on one side. But be careful as the side edges help hold the mounts. For the sides, a single sanding may be sufficient as very few need to be removed. Once you have a large enough opening, you can insert your stereo. It slides until it reaches the ledges on the sides. Use a flathead screwdriver one side at a time. Place it in the groove and press the tab. The stereo slides into the hole. Repeat for the other side. When the stereo is fully installed, you can put on the front panel and you're done. It wasn't that bad, except that the dashboard had to be changed. But that's the price you pay for installing a double din in a half din hole. The bracket seems to hold the stereo quite well. The finish is a bit cheap and flimsy, but overall I'm happy with the product. Doesn't look cheaper than Metra kits. The product image provided is incorrect as it is designed for two single DIN units and this product is designed for a double DIN unit (no center bar) but it was exactly what I needed.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Sad packaging
