Excellent - cheap - easy!

I'm used to Elazar and Lehman full-wick oil lamps that practically require a blowtorch to light. This will be the simple version. I still used olive oil but I was able to use a regular lighter and the flame would ignite instantly. I doused my wicks with oil and out of the 5 I lit one night I was able to light 4 the next night and 2 again the next night. There is no soot and it smells a little like you are cooking when stewing with oil. I use a salad oil jar (with a spout) to easily add oil and douse the flames. An octagon about a quarter tall. And they all swam to the outside rim of my bowl, so definitely don't use a container that curves over the flame! I've read of people using Dixie cups to hold them, which I find wild. I don't pour water into the bottom of the bowl, I just add oil.
