Review on Enhanced BenQ EX3203R Monitor with FreeSync DisplayHDR - 31.5 Inch, 2560X1440P, Curved Design, HDMI Connectivity by Rich Shaver

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very good image quality, but there are a few minor issues

I was looking for the best monitor to replace my previous dual Asus PA248 8 years ago. I want to use it mainly for CAD and web browsing, but I also play games, so gaming performance is good. The most important criteria are no backlight, crisp text display, no flicker and no dead pixels on arrival. I looked through four other monitors in a month, all with issues, before settling on this one. Samsung 43, 34, 34 with quantum dots and Dell U3818DW. VA panels are better IMO. IPS is great, but rich blacks and no backlight make up for the slight drop in image response time. It's really imperceptible on this panel. I'm very knowledgeable about lag/blurring and I'm 100% satisfied. All Samsung had terrible menus. Worst of the 20+ monitors I've used from almost every brand available. Embarrassingly bad. Also, the qled panel had worse contrast than the non-qled panel. Hollow shimmered madly at 60Hz but was otherwise amazing. Its USB KVM and auto-switching were better. The Benq has without a doubt the best panel, EXCEPT ONE: As others have pointed out, there's a slight dark/washed streak along the vertical edges, as well as a quarter-inch of dead space around the thin edges of the bezel. Blurring distorts the image if you look directly at the dead center of the monitor. If you move your head to the side and look exactly perpendicular to the curvature of the screen, everything is perfectly visible. I don't know why that is, but it's definitely disappointing. Other than that, it's the nicest panel I've ever owned, other than my 65-inch LG C7P OLED TV. Another problem is the USB setup. One Type-C upstream port and two downstream ports. If it had two full-size Type-B ports and USB switching like Dell does, this would be the perfect monitor. Switching inputs is otherwise quick, so I've settled with Sabrent's external USB switch for now.
